What inspires you as a photographer?
Being a photographer helps an artist express not only a specific moment in their life, but the emotion behind it. Photography is a way of conveying a message with a series of photos. Your pictures should tell a story on their own without the means of using any words. Being an artist, photography helps me create a piece of work that uses different medias to create meaningful works of art. Anybody can take a photo, just as someone could draw, strum a guitar or even write a story. Photography inspires me to take both my creativity and emotion to another level while also implementing them into my other creative endeavors.
What subject matter do you like to photograph?
Personally, I enjoy taking many different types of photos when I go out. I tend to gravitate toward a more landscape-esk type photos which is seen through most of the series's throughout the year, including the Photo-Synthesis series. I view these type of photos as a personal snapshot of something I could possibly never see ever again. I do however enjoy taking photos of people and their emotions. When you take an unexpected photo, it gives you a natural reaction compared to a pre-planned photo.
What is your goal as a photographer?
The goal as a photographer is to let others see into the lens that I see. Photography, like art is subjective and can be viewed in different ways. While that may be so, you can focus on specific objects to hone a viewers sight. If you can make someone inspired or starstruck by your works, I personally feel that is a goal to reach. Every photo taken, I think of how I can stage a photo that anyone could take, but make it obscure compared to other ones.
What do you want your photographs to convey or express?
Photographs all have a story within them that show different meanings with each and every piece. I want my photos to convey a story of my travels across the years. A feeling of evolution of seasons, feelings and time that express a different narrative. Each photo series usually has different meanings behind them all. The California Photo-Synthesis project conveys a sense of adventure in exploring the different parts of California.
How do you want the viewer to feel when they look at their work?
A viewer interpretation is more of what they feel when they see a specific piece of art. My goal is to help a viewer see an end product but an overall feeling is what I strive for in a viewer. If a viewer feels nostalgia from an experience they had at a location I photographed or even a portrait of a person, I just want someone think to themselves about what they think it represents.
Why is photography important to you?
Photography is important to me because it makes any travel more interesting knowing you can show others your trip. It gives a meaning to a potentially lackluster trip but taking photos could change that. Photos express personal emotion for me helping portray things I can't exactly explain but can rather show instead. Any form of art helps with coping with personal problems, art and photography are among those two that help me personally.
